Be protected from Facebook Scams: Malicious Apps

Unique and more complicated method of Facebook Scamming is developing day by day. You need to be extra careful to be safe from them. Recently, I have been informed by Caitlin Regan, a reader of this Blog about this new and more cunning method of Facebook Scamming.

Back to the main topic. You know that you can use apps, play games online from your browser in Facebook. Developers can create and upload apps to Facebook for free. Facebook publishes all the apps which are uploaded without reviewing them. This is a great mistake on behalf of Facebook for the protection of their users personal data. Due to Facebook's ignorance  it is really easy for Hackers to create Malicious Apps and distribute them. One click on the Wrong App and you will be the Hackers next victim.

Let me try to make you understand how App Scamming might work. A malicious app will be disguised as some other app, i.e "Your Total Profile Viewers" or "Horoscope Fantasy". When you click the App, you will be asked for to give permission to the App to see your Public Profile and/or post on your Behalf. There will be no reason to suspect anything, so you will give permission. From here, the Scamming starts. The App can do several things to harm you.

For instance, it can collect your Email ID and send spam mails to you with viruses or Keyloggers or incident advertises. It can also download software, informal video and advertises to your system anonymously without letting you know. It may even post links to Phishing Page in your Friends wall. I talked with a friend of mine who was a victim app scamming. And he said that the App
sent some malicious links to his friends without his knowledge.

Now, how can you be safe from this attack. A Report of Social Media Scams was published by Bitdefender a few days ago. According to their research, scam apps are disguised as some specific type of apps. Among them highest number of scams were done using apps like these.

1. Total profile viewers - 23.86% Scamming are done.

2. Check if a friend has deleted you - 5.18% Scamming are done

3. Free Disneyland tickets - 2.55% Scamming are done

4. Enable your dislike button here - 2.15% Scamming are done

5. See who is spying you- 1.67% Scamming are done

The best way to keep safe to not use Apps like those. These are not that useful Apps. They just give you random results each time you use the app. Usually people just use them out of  curiosity. Being too much curious is never good. I know it's not worth saying, but I would like to remind you that - If Something is too good to be  true, then probably it isn't. Don't be greedy...Don't click everything with the word "Free" in it. Nothing in life is "Free". If something is given to you for free, there must be something involved. You know Tips Of Tech is 100% free, but the thing you don't know is we earn from ads in this Blog.

Use your common sense and don't use all the Apps recommended to you. App scamming is not that common yet, so being careful from now can save you from being a victim of Apps Scam. Graphics Interchange Format(gif) was introduced by a company named Compuserve on 1987.This format is highly popular on the internet because it supports animation. Separate frames are shown after a definite time period to make the object inside it seem to be moving.But this format is not suitable for high quality images because the number of colors supported is limited to only 256.

Gickr.com is a great site to make gif images.You do not have to download any software to do that.Just upload a few images or videos and the site automatically would prepare your animation.Glickr also stores your animation in their own server and you could use the image url anywhere you want.The animation above of the pac-man is made by using four frames in total.

Speed up internet connection

You have a decent internet connection, but your browsing speed is not as good as it’s supposed to be. If you want to speed up internet connection, you are at the right spot.

 First off, let’s consider you are using a good Browser. Internet Browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari Browser and Opera can be considered good. For better browsing experience, I would recommend using Chrome or Firefox. The performance of Safari and Opera is not as good as those. If you are not using Chrome or Firefox, I would highly recommend you to use any one of them. I always avoid Internet Explorer because of it’s many shortcomings.

Now, advertises which pops up in different websites can consume a great deal of bandwidth. So, to block websites many add-ons are available. There is a good add-on for blocking advertise in Firefox and Chrome called add-block plus. You can download add-block plus free from ChromeStore and Firefox Add-ons store. Installing add-ons like "Add Block Plus" can speed up internet connection by blocking advertises in websites.

To speed up downloads, use a good quality download manager. Most other websites will recommend DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) but I had negative experience with DAP. I use Internet Download Manager (IDM). You can download it from it’s OfficialWebsite or FileHippo Server. Using to some unrevailed technologies, the IDM utilizes as much badnwidth as possible, and downloads anything really fast. But as IDM utilizes all the bandwidth, you can not browse while downloading (You can technically, but browsing will be really slow…Slower than Dial-Up Modem).

There are no “hacks” to speed up internet connection. All of this “hacks” that you will find online are fake. Also, there are no software which will speed up internet connection. Most of them are really just viruses which will harm your system. And the rest of them are just advertises. Never use softwares like those.

Install Apps to Kindle Fire without WiFi, Connecting to Computer or Using File Manager

If you want to install Apps to Kindle Fire without WiFi or SnapPea or using a 3rd party file manager, this article is for you.

Kindle store does not offer all apps. So sometimes you need to Install Apps to Kindle Fire from other sources. To install the app to your Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD without Wifi or File Manager program, Follow the steps below.

Download the (.apk) android app  from any App Market. Transfer the .apk file to the "Downloads" directory of your  Kindle. (Via USB, Ofcourse!!!).

The hard part is done. Next, from the "Apps" menu of your fire, open an app named "OfficeSuite". This app is preloaded to your Kindle Fire.

Now, from the left sidebar in OfficeSuite, go to "Internal ..." and from right sidebar go to "Downloads".

Next, touch "filter" and select "Show All Files".

You will see the apk you transfered via USB.

Touch it and click "Install".

From now on, you will be able to use that app or game from the "Apps" section.

Sometimes, for new users "Allow Installation of Application from Unknown sources" is turned off (By Default). You might get an error on the last step of installing. To turn it on, follow this... from notification drop-down select more+ > Device > Allow installation of application > Turn On. You should be able to install apps now.

How to program HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS, MySql without a programming software installed.

To create a HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL you need programming software like Adobe Dreamweaver which is very costly. It weights about 300MB so it is a burden to download and its license costs about 150 dollars. Most of us give up learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript etc just for the fear of using 150 bucks in Dreamweaver.

But, you can program HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS, MySql without any programming software like Dreamweaver. You just need a PC or laptop running on Windows XP or later OS. Just open the notepad program and write any code. It does not matter whether HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS or MySql. Then press Ctrl+S for saving. In the saving dialogue box, rename it with the extension name .php, .css, .html or .htm, .js, .sql etc instead of .txt. In the rename box, just select the writing .txt at the end of the document title and delete it. Then put in any of the formats there. Then save it. The documents will be saved as HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS or MySql. You can also program simple software in notepad by giving it .exe or .bat extensions.

There is only one drawback. If you use Adobe Dreamweaver, while programming if you have a syntax error of any kind, the software highlights it with red color and you can fix it easily. There is no such opportunity in Notepad. Also, you can preview your file in a side window in Dreamweaver, but you cannot do that in Notepad. In notepad you need to carefully program each line with space, “<, / and >” signs and all tags. It would not autocorrect your common mistakes. If there is any kind of syntax error, you need to find it manually and correct it.

Now, I am going to give the extension names for different formats.

• JavaScript            →           .js
• MySQL                  →           .sql
• HTML                     →           .html or .htm
• CSS                         →           .css
• PHP                        →           .php
• MS Word File     →           .doc

Don’t forget one thing. Always put the heading and ending tag correct while programming HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS and MySql. Check the files by running it in offline server software like XAMPP. Read the post setting up a server Offline to know how to do it.

How to speed up Windows 8 and make it extremely fast.

Windows 8 is the 8th operating System of Microsoft Corp. According to many surveys, Windows 8 OS has the fastest boot time of all OS in the world. The startup time ranges from 5 to 20 seconds. So, what if you can make your Windows 8 computer or tablet run in like, say 3 seconds.
Well guys, thats no fairytale and it can be done easily. Following is a step by step how to speed up Windows 8 and make it extremely fast. By the Way, you do not need to install or download any software.

1) Search with the term "msconfig" and open "msconfig.exe"

Click to increase the image size.

2) From msconfig, go to startup tab, and click "Open Task Manager".

3) From task manager, disable all the startup programs except your antivirus (Kaspersky) and cleaner software (Ccleaner), persistence module, igfxtray Module and hkcmd module. (Just disable all the software except the highlighted ones in the image.)

4)You don't even need to click OK! You are done. Restart your computer to experience lowest startup time ever!

Windows 8 starts many softwares during startup. Only the highlighted onces are system software (Like drivers) which is needed by your computer to work properly. Rest are 3rd party software which starts up during turning on and mess with your startup time! Just disable them clicking Disable one by one. (No there is no "Select all and click disable in Windows 8"). Turn off those unneeded or less needed 3rd party software to speed up your computer.

PlayStation 5: The new rumor

Finally Sony Entertainment has released their latest Video Gaming console “PlayStation 4”. The PlayStation 4 is maybe the best gaming console to be made till now. But just for a moment, think Bigger. The whole world is now engaged in Gossip and rumors of PS4, and I am here to write about a console even better – The Playstation 5.

Sony has given their heart and soul to make PlayStation 4 perfect. Seriously, I personally think that Sony can do no better job with the PlayStation 4. Now, PS4 will be sold to public in short time. The production of 1^st batch of PS4 is maybe already completed. Amazon is already taking pre-order for PlayStation 4.

The burning question – What are the console designers of Sony dong right now. I mean, they are paid salary, they cannot be sitting idle. So, they must be planning for the next biggest game console – The Ultimate Playstation 5. No one of the Sony Officials has declared anything about PS5 yet, but
you can be 99% sure its designing and planning has already begun. What will the PlayStation 5 be like? You will read about the PS5 rumor in this article.

PS4 supports full HD gaming at 1080p, and till now there is no better video quality than 1080p. Right now, many monitors support 2560*1700 pixel resolutions (The New ChromeBook Pixel). Maybe the future HD video will be 1700p. When Playstation 5 will be released, which I am guessing will be around 2016-2017 1700p will be the new “Full HD” resolution. So, it can be expected that the PS5 will have 1700p resolution support. Already, Xbox 360 supports “Kinect” which is a device to detect human movement. Maybe, Sony will develop a similar device for PS4. The PS5 will be controlled with a similar device.

PS3 and PS4 games are written in a 1-2 layered Blue-Ray disc. So during the time of PS5 maybe a 4 layered Blue-Ray disc will be used. By the way, each layer of a Blue-Ray Disc can hold about 16GB of data. I can give an almost accurate guess about the price of a PS5 game disc. Developers have already developed for PS4, and these games cost same as the PC versions. PS4 version of “Just Dance 4” costs around 70$, so a PS5 disc will cost around 100$.

Technology is making us Fat and Lazy

As you all know, I have not been writing on this blog for a long time. But for some reasons, recently I have seen a massive raise in the amount of visitors on this blog. I used to get a few hundred unique visitors daily. But for a week now, the number of unique visitor has increased about a few thousands. I can find no reasons for the massive uplift in traffic. Thanks to all of you for coming here, reading my posts and supporting me.

Now, back to the main topic. In 2013 we are using different gadgets to make our life comfortable. Everyone has a Tablet PC on them. Gaming, social networking, working has never been so mobile and easy. Now, with the help of a 7 inch device, we can play the best games while moving. But, think about 2005 for a moment. There was no iPhone, no iPad or Nexus 7. Indoor entertainment meant watching cable on a CRT TV or playing PlayStation 2 video game. Most of us, Teenagers, played soccer or softball. These physical exercises kept us healthy. In those times, most of the things we did were physical activity. There was no Facebook, so to meet somebody, walking two blocks was no biggie. Most of the things were physical activity.

But now, exercise means exercise. To do exercise, we have to actually run on a treadmill. Most of us don't do that. Due to the enhancements in Technology, our society is getting lazy. On the other hand, fast food and other junk foods are developing day by day. Our calorie intake from junk food is increasing, but burning calorie is not being done in the same ratio. Even if intake of calorie doesn't increase, the amount of Physical Activity we do is decreasing. Due to being exposed to modern technology, we are getting unhealthy. We are getting fat.

I mean, how many obese people did you see in 2005 and how many do you see now. Do not let technology get the best treasure you own, Your Health. Use technology, but do not over-use it. Can you imagine a day without you Laptop. The importance of technology is huge, and we will always be there to give you tips about technology. But do not let technology get the best of you, get the best from technology.

Be Protected from Facebook Scams: Copy Account

I have been wanting to write about this, but I did not get the opportunity. This method of Facebook Scamming is really new. I am a semi-professional on Facebook scam detection, but till now I have only witnessed one case like this.

Let me discuss in details. In Facebook, you can create as many account as you want from a same IP address. All you need is a different email ID. It is also possible to download any image from Facebook by right clicking and choosing "Save Image As". You must have guessed how the scamming works. I am against all sorts of Hacking, but I must say the person who discovered this must be a genius. The scamming works in a very simple, yet cunning way. Hacker will download your Profile Picture into his system. Then the hacker will create an anonymous email ID from any free Email server. Then, he will create a Facebook account with your name, and set your profile picture as the profile picture of the fake account.

He can do a lot of things with the Facebook account. For instance, he can message all your friends "I am broken, send some money to my credit card. The number is *********". Or, he can also send Keyloggers or other Viruses to them. In the Copy Account case I experienced, the Hacker (In this case, one of my friends) sent me some really emotional messages disguised as another "very special friend" of mine. Although it was just a prank, I thought I should mention it. A copy account may seem funny at first, but it can become lots of trouble and complications in the end.

Now, the main problem is, creating a copy account is not a crime unless the hacker shares viruses, spam links etc from it. Even if you report the account to Facebook, it may not be taken down. The things you can do are written below.

• Share this post, and write something like "I have only 1 Facebook account. Do not accept friend request from any other account with my name." considering you have only one Facebook account.
• If you see that a known person is chatting with you in a awkward way, see the chat history and wall of that person. If you don't remember chatting with the person about the stuff you found in the chat history, and if you do not remember the persons wall, block both (Fake and Real) person Fast. Then after a day, unblock the real person, and tell him what happened.
• If you see that your account has been copied, the thing you could do is change your profile picture and   send a message to your friends with a link to this article. Explain to your friend what you suspect is going on, and tell them not to share any confidential information with you in Facebook.
